A new way to explore: every stop is a chapter
Published 22 October 2026
You open a "top 10 aesthetic cafes" list, pick one at random, show up, snap a few photos, drink your coffee, and head home. Great photos, but if someone asks "what was cool about that place?", all you remember is… the cup.
Ma Xó was born so that every outing gives you a story to tell.
What is Ma Xó?
Ma Xó is a storytelling travel app. You choose an itinerary near you and complete small real-world quests—tasting a dish, spotting an architectural detail, snapping a street corner. Each completed quest unlocks a chapter of a story about the culture, history, cuisine, or street names of the exact spot where you are standing.
At the end of your trip, your photos, stories, and notes automatically come together into your very own journal.
5 things that make Ma Xó different from a places list
1. Secret quests — spoiler-free
You only see the next quest when it is your turn. Future quests aren't stored openly in the app, so not even the creator can spill the beans early. It feels like solving a real-life puzzle across the streets, rather than just reading a pre-planned itinerary.
2. Real stories with sources
Every chapter is written from curated materials and linked web sources. If a spot lacks solid information, it won't be published; AI-assisted summaries are clearly labeled. You get to explore while truly understanding where you stand—no made-up tall tales.
3. AI takes care of the scheduling
No more opening ten tabs to check opening hours, distances, and costs. Each itinerary displays the step count, duration, distance, estimated cost per person, and opening hours you need to beat. Along the way, the app even nudges you on how long you can casually linger.
Want to create your own? Just share your idea—like "an afternoon chasing childhood snacks around an old market"—and set your radius, budget, transport, and time window. The AI finds real, open spots with good reviews, pieces them into an itinerary, and writes quests and stories for each step.
4. Photos are the "key", and there's a fun way out if you're stuck
Snap a live photo, and AI verifies it in seconds; once approved, the chapter unlocks. Spot closed or inaccessible? Report it in the app to switch to an equivalent quest without penalty. Truly stuck? You can skip up to 2 times per run—in exchange for a mildly silly photo like standing on one leg like a flamingo. Skipped chapters can be unlocked separately later without redoing the entire route.
5. Memories become a journal, private by default
Every run becomes a personal journal: unlocked stories, photos, visited spots, personal notes, and a rating out of 10. Your journal and photos remain private; when shared, exact coordinates are hidden and spoilers stay covered. Ma Xó only accesses your location when a quest needs it and never stores your movement history.
